Violet Dewar

Back to video

My name’s Violet Dewar and I’m a Gran for the first time.

[To baby] ‘Do you know your Gran’s here?’.

I just do all the usual things, change him if it’s necessary and burped him when he was younger. It’s just like being a Mum again - it’s great fun.

When Archie was really wee, Mum was feeding him at all times, all night, so you couldn’t really take him away, so she didn’t really get a break. I would let her have a sleep afternoons, maybe or something because unfortunately Archie doesn’t sleep a lot… he’s got a lot of energy.

Leah’s got me…you don’t always want to follow your Mum, so she comes to the [breastfeeding] group and they all seem to get on so well. They have a friendly coffee morning really, she says, and they have all been a great support for each other.

If there are any little questions they have or any doubts at all, there’s qualified people here for them just to ask and get the right answers.

Archie’s just all smiles all the time. You just say to him ‘Where’s your smiles?’ and you get smiles and giggles and I just don’t have a problem bonding with him at all.
